A Brief History of Jerico Products

Jerico Products, Inc. has its roots in a company called Agricultural Lime and Compost Company that was founded nearly a century ago. The company began harvesting ancient oyster shells from the South Bay for use as an organic calcium carbonate additive for livestock feed and soil amendments.  Over the years Agricultural Lime underwent a few owners and several expansions to become the company it is today providing a diverse array of marine services.  Oyster shell harvesting and milling remain strong;  processed shells are shipped to agricultural customers throughout the western United States, Canada and the Pacific Rim.

In the 80’s Jerico expanded into marine towing and barging.  Jerico began using its special expertise and handling to barge outsized art sculptures too large to transport on most highways to San Francisco ports.  From San Francisco ports, the massive sculptures were shipped all over the world.   Jerico barges also began supplying sand to the construction industry in northern California and now barges a half a million tons a year into Napa and Sonoma Counties.  For the last several years, Jerico tugs and barges have moved pre-stressed concrete bridge structures from a manufacturing site on the Petaluma River to bridge and highway structures all over the bay area.  Annually Jerico transloads several hundred thousand tons of imported aggregates and gypsum for construction and infrastructure in northern California.  Jerico currently maintains a fleet of 20 tugs and barges.

Today Jerico Products is run by the Lind family.  The patriarch Mike (Mitch) Lind is the President, son Christian Lind is the general manager and son Aaron, is marine project manager.  Jerico maintains an employee census of 40 people and provides generous wage and benefit packages.  The Lind family has a rich history of community service, working with such non-profits as Petaluma Ecumenical Properties and Hospice.  Mike Lind is past president and 20 year member of Kiwanis, a service club that raises funds for Petalumans in need. The Linds are currently planning a memorial park for the City of Petaluma.

Jerico is a member of the Bay Planning Coalition, The Sonoma County Farm Bureau, the Chamber of Commerce and the California Grain and Feed Association.
